Facts and History about Hannover Airport

Hannover Airport - All Information on Hannover Airport (HAJ)

Hannover Airport (German: Flughafen Hannover-Langenhagen) is the international gateway, about 11 kilometers north of Hanover, Germany.

It has flights to several European cities and tourism destinations and serves as a base for Eurowings, Condor, Corendon Airlines Europe, and TUI fly Deutschland.

The Airport was opened in Langenhagen in 1952, replacing an old airfield in the city.

It opened two modern terminals in 1973. Terminals A and B are still in use today. Terminal A underwent a renovation in 2013 and was completed a year later.

From 1957 to 1990, the airport hosted Germany's largest air show, the Internationale Luft-und Raumfahrtausstellung.

The air show moved to Berlin in 1992 following a fatal accident in 1988 and German Reunification in 1990.

In the 1990s, it provided intercontinental services to the United States and Canada.

To handle more passengers, it added its largest terminal in 1998. Terminal C has eight new boarding gates and three bus departure gates. It is capable of handling up to 30 aircraft simultaneously.

Hannover Airport terminals are equipped with a Jetway and can handle massive aircraft such as Boeing 747s.

In 2000, an S-Bahn train connection was established between the Airport and Hamelin via Hanover Central Railway Station.

Flughafen Hannover railway station is beneath Terminal C. The journey time is approximately 17 minutes.

Public buses are also available at the Airport. Private vehicles, rideshare, and shuttle services are also allowed entry to the facility, providing about 14,000 parking spaces.

Today, Hannover Airport has three passenger terminal concourses, Terminals A, B, and C. Terminals A and B have six boarding gates equipped with jet bridges, while Terminal C has eight.

Bus gates are available in each concourse.

The additional Terminal D is for the exclusive use of the Royal Air Force to transport British troops to and from Northern Germany.

The official currency of Germany is the Euro. The currency sign for the Euro is € while the code is EUR.

The US dollars (US$) are not generally accepted, but you can keep a small supply of dollars with you when you go to Germany.

Dollars are good to have on hand in case of an emergency or if you cannot get any local currency.

Amenities at the facility include ample dining choices, shopping, and facilities like restrooms, ATMs, and many more. A currency exchange center is also available at the Airport.

Hannover Airport's International Air Transport Association (IATA) code is constantly referred to as HAJ throughout this content.

This gateway sits 56 meters above sea level at 52°27′39″N and 009°41′06″E in Hannover, Germany.
